pursue the extraordinary
God is the Creator and Ruler of everything. He has always existed in three forms: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.
Jesus Christ is the Son of God and is co-equal with the Father. Jesus became human by being born to a virgin and lived a sinless life. He gave Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of everyone by dying on the cross. He came back to life after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He went back to Heaven, is alive today, and wants to be intimately involved in our lives. He is returning soon for His followers.
The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is here in the world to make us aware of our need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. Followers of Christ should seek to live under His control daily.
The Bible is God's Word to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs. It is our authority on how to live by God’s standards. The Bible is still a relevant book for our lives today. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error. Christians should continue to study it in order to grow in understanding of God and His will for our lives.
We are made in the spiritual image of God and are the supreme object of God's creation. He loves us unconditionally and passionately. Although we have tremendous potential for good, we are separated from God by an attitude of disobedience called "sin.”
Salvation is a free gift from God to us. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ can we receive forgiveness and be saved from sin's penalty.
We were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or with Him through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally with Him is eternal life in Heaven. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence.
All followers of Jesus Christ around the world make up His church, but the visible expression of that is the local church. All Christians should be faithfully involved in a local church where we can be equipped to live God-honoring lives, encourage one another in this process, and serve each other and our community and world. Every Christian is gifted by the Holy Spirit for service and has a role to play in the local church. The ultimate mission of the church is to glorify God in this world and to help others also become followers of Jesus Christ.
SYMBOLS OF OUR FAITH
Baptism by immersion symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Once we have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, baptism is a way for us to publicly declare our new life in Christ. It is also a step of obedience based on God’s commands and allows us to follow the example of Jesus. Baptism does not save us, but shows the world that we have already been saved.
Communion, or the Lord’s Supper, is a practice given to all believers by Jesus Christ to remember his sacrifice for us. The elements of bread and juice are symbols of Christ’s broken body and shed blood. Communion is not a means of salvation. Rather, it is a testament of a believer’s faith in Jesus’ work on the cross.
